I’ve been working on musicglob little by little the past few weeks. I’m pretty close to relaunching back into everything. For now I want to go through hopefully all my email before I go live with the new version of the site.

One of the new features of musicglob is I have created a sort-of “news wire” for myself. It is aptly named “the musicglob wire” and is over at wire.musicglob.com In the new version of the site I have a section in the sidebar that displays a list of the latest posts on the wire and links to them. This was all made possible via the Simplepie wordpress plugin that allows me to pull any RSS feeds and display based on templates. I thought about keeping “the wire” in my main weblog and just display it as a category… yet I decided to keep things organized and setup another Wordpress installation for the wire. That way if that space expands, it has room to grow without screwing up any of my other musicglob stuff.

I still have lots of ideas of a direction for musicglob… only time is the factor at this point.

I purchased vinely.com to use for a “web 2.0″ domain name for a cool app. Something that brings all your “vines” aka your twitter, blog posts, other RSS feeds, facebook, myspace, etc etc into one place. I kinda abandoned the idea because I have no time or know-how right now to do that kind of thing. Plus it’s already being done by larger companies that will hopefully do a far better job than my grand scheme of things.

So instead I’m using vinely.com as my own “web vine” of sorts. Right now it’s more of a tumblog / twitter / instant update blog than anything. I’ll be testing social web applications that are open source and maybe come up with something cool that a few people will like. Either way I’ll be learning stuff and that is what’s really important when you work within teh internets. There’s lots of free apps and API’s out there to do cool stuff with so when I find the time, maybe something will happen.

Until then, vinely is my web vine.

So I’m sitting in class right now before it starts and some people are talking about our college email. Recently it was upgraded to outlook webmail which is a tiny bit better than it was, yet still sucks. I hear things like the the upgrade was a gift from the previous graduating year which might be true - who knows I don’t care.

A couple things they said are pretty ignorant which made me realize again that everybody can think anything about tech. They were sarcastically saying that email must be really expensive since there is so many free email services out there like gmail. Well Gmail is under Googles billion dollar business plan. Its part of how they make money along with every other free email service out there. They wouldn’t be arounf if they weren’t trying to make money. Our university email is a service provided for free because we need it and its not part of some business plan to make money.

Somebody also said “Do you think they make money giving our email adresses to spammers?” They all answered “yeah” and this wasn’t sarcastic. They actually think this happens because they get spam. This is against so many laws its rediculous. This would not happen and doesn’t happen. Here’s why they get spam, 1) they have used their email address somewhere else that has then been gathered by spammers. 2) Our university website has many ways to mine email addresses and names via our people search and the varous email adresses that are setup to mass mail groups of people. So we’re all screwed. There are many articles all over the internet discussing how email is a problem yet we all don’t have a solution yet. Spammers are still winning the battle.

That’s my thoughts for today. Please excuse spelling errors as I’m writing this on my treo.

Last night I ventured out to south Pasadenda along with many friends to catch the midnight showing of The Big Lebowski arguably one of the best films ever made ever. It’s just brilliant and that’s all there is to it. We saw it at The Rialto which often plays old cult movies at midnight every Saturday. So far I’ve seen Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas and just a few weeks ago Dr. Strangelove. In the next couple months there is a few good ones that I’ll head out to, for isntance - Fight Club and a couple others that I already forgot.

Today, I think I’m gonna head out to the horse races or maybe play some poker down at Commerce Casino in LA since it’s getting harder and harder to play poker online these days. Good ol laws and whatnot.

It was at the Marvimon House in china town…. really nice place. Basically it was a yuppie hipster get together. M. Ward played a good set. They are early country/surfer/blues/southern/rock of some sort. I suppose you’d have to listen to them to know what I mean. Either way it was a pleasent Tuesday evening.
