Computers Screw Up

The other day I decided I wanted to be a geek and install Linux on my desktop. I thought I’ll throw in another hard drive and install it on there. Turns out that hard drive went bad, and the installation never really finished. (this was actually a long process) Then I come to find that windows will not boot because the linux boot loader never finished loading. So basically, I’m screwed, I thought “awesome.” I thought I had to go buy another hard drive and re-install windows or something, then try to get my data off the other hard drive.

Long story short, I found a 20 gb hard drive here, put it in, and loaded Fedora Core 3. Then after much troubleshooting and such, I was finally able to access my other harddrive with all my windows stuff on it. For now, I am saved. I’m just using Fedora Core 3 as my main operating system. I’ll get back to windows soonish (spring break is coming up) unless I find ways to make Linux work perfectly for everything I need and want.

Oh yeah, and I have some finals to study for, I’ll go do that.

I’m certain this has been said somewhere on the web before, but all well. I noticed today while I was checking my gmail account and downloading some attachments for school, there was a cool “Download All Attachments.” I thought hey why not! So I click it, gmail zipped up all the files into one .zip with all of the files in it. Pretty awesome.

By they way, I have like a bunch of invitations if you want a super cool and trendy gmail account.

Netscape 8 BETA has shown up today on the web. I found out will looking through waxy.org links as I usually do throughout the day, and found out that Netscape’s new browser is out.

So I just had to download and try it out. I am very impressed. It’s really a cool looking browser with tons of features packed into it. It’s nice and fast, and imported everything from my Mozilla Firefox 1.0 preferences. In fact, I am writing this entry in Netscape 8 Beta, and I am really enjoying messing around with it.

If you use Internet Explorer, please go to browsehappy.com and learn why I encourage you to check out another browser.

PodCasting

“PodCasting” as it has been named is basically just an evolved version of the basic idea of radio, yet it mixes the internet, audio, and any form of portable audio player into one.

It’s pretty much a new up and coming and current trend for anybody and everybody who wants it. From what I know, here is how it works, I think in this order:
1)Someone creates a podcast, in essence it is a mini personal radio show. A person records themself, and then makes it availble for download.
2)The creator can make the podcast available on sites like podcast.net and ipodder.org where people can subscribe or “tune in” and download the podcast to their portable audio player, which is done automatically with software like iPodder which downloads the latest podcasts you have subscribed to.
3)Enjoy the podcast wherever they want to listen!

Yes, this is a really simplified version of the list. It’s not super easy to get into it, yet will be in the near future. Especially with companies like Odeo starting up.

There are so many websites that already have info on the topic that a simple google search will give you a bunch of results. Look out for it.

This is my new toy, a brand new Palm Zire 72s. The “s” stands for silver and special! It is usually blue, yet I was able to pic up the cool edition. To say the least, it is awesome. I’ve been able to setup the bluetooth so that I can web browse on it. I’ve also taken photos with it and listened to music and taken notes, and well, organized my life per se.

The screen is beautiful and it is so light to pick up. The external speaker is super loud and the internal mic for audio notes and video capture is really good. In fact, here are some photos, I’ll give you video later.

Click this link to see my first palm photo on the internet on flickr.com

Well I just absolutely love it, and it’s awesome.

p.s. Flickr switched up their layout and stuff. I really like it! All the more reason for you to use flickr if you feel like sharing photos on the interent.

gmail

Those of you who don’t know what Gmail is, I’ll give you the rundown. It is the email service started by Google which is invite only. The crazy thing is, I used to just have about 6 invitations as of yesterday, yet today I HAVE 50 TO GIVE AWAY!

I was thinking, what could I possibly do with this? I remember when the gmail invites were like the hot thing and people were paying like $20 on ebay just to get one. Now they arn’t as hot, since it’s not so elite anymore. All well, you can go to gmail.com to see what you get. (1 gigabyte of email storage) among other things like a good easy to use system.

So if you want a 1 gb email account, send me an email to danisblan@gmail.com and just gimme your email. I’ll give you one for sure.

Halo 2

Just beat Halo 2 on Co-Op on normal. Quite the feat and lots of fun. It took around 10-20 hours. I don’t know the exact amount because we picked up ours on Thursday, and did things besides playing Halo between then and now, which is Sunday morning at 3:19am. I don’t want to give away the ending for any of you who care, just look forward to Halo 3.

Overall, lots and lots of fun. You will probably have more fun playing multiplayer with your friends or on xBox Live.

My Ratings:
Story and Play: 9.0 of 10
Artificial Intelligence: 9.0 of 10 (the AI was amazing compared to what I have seen)
Multiplayer: 11 of 10 (not possible but hey, if you have played Halo, you would agree.)
Overall: 10 of 10
