july sickness

So july hasn’t been the best month for me, this year, or last. Here’s the story. We’ll start with last year, the weekend of july 4th, 2003. I go to the beach with my girlfriend of then, and friend of now Rachel, and also friend Linnea. We go to Torrey Pines beach here in San Diego and have a great timel. Well, being as white as I am, I got sunburned. So that’s no big deal usually, yet later that day, we go back to Rachels house, and for whatever reason decide to do the SlipNSlide. BAD IDEA. I knew I was sunburned yet decided to just do it a couple times with a shirt on, fully knowing that my chest was pretty burned. That choice was pobably one of the dumbest I’ve ever made.

A few minutes later, I started about a 6 hour journey of the worst pain I have ever felt in my life.(so far in my 19 years of living.) It turns out, my chest being burned, my skin was already sensative, and thus the hard ground and slip n slide pretty much tore my skin off leaving me in excrusiating pain. It was like my whole chest was being stuck with needles all over, and there was nothing I could do about it. I lathered my chest with aloe and everything that could be thought of that might help. Nothing did. In fact, I was in extreme pain from about I think 3-9pm when I took half of a vicodin. That helped me out finally.

Lets fast forward to this year. July 4th weekend, I was erie about something happening to me because for some reason, I repeat myself in some form or another. (for example, when I was younger I was sick every christmas time for about 3/4 years in a row) So I was extra careful. I had a great Sunday July 4th just hanging out with friends, then to wake up Monday morning feeling horrible. It turns out I caught the stomach flu from my mom, and that was a great day off I might say.

Then there is this weekend. I thought to myself, it will be a busy weekend helping out around the house and doing much needed Calculus homework for my summer class. Wrong there. Friday night, after hanging out with some friends at my house, as well as daniel and I making some hilarious t-shirts (more later.) I began to feel sick. I thought, I’ll just go to sleep and it will go away. Wrong again. I woke up at 4am feeling sick as I’ll get out, and feeling the same knots and just overall crappy-ness in my stomach and body until this morning when it has mostly subsided. I couldn’t hold anything in my stomach, not even water would stay down. I think it was either food poisoning from the Kentucky Fried Chicken meal I ate the night before, or just some kind of flu.

So my weekend was just awesome. Laying down all day saturday feeling like somebody had taken a bat to me as well as a constant h-bomb exploding in my stomach. Oh yeah, on top of that, I got sunburned again on wednesday, and a couple days later, my shoulder blistered from the burn. I thought “wow this has never happend before, it’s really enjoyable!”

I must say, it sucks to be burned and sick. I would recommend using sunscreen when going out into the sun, especially if you are as pasty white as I am, or used to be. (Now I’m red, turning light tan) Cheerio to all, I hope your weekend was more enjoyable then mine.
